I can not believe that we are more than halfway through September! I know I’ve said it before, but this year is simply flying by. I’m not sure where this year has gone. And here we are, already, almost at the end of the 3rd quarter! How did that happen?!?

I’m curious for you and for my own business, to see how we all end out the year. Being that we’re just a week away from October, I’m hoping you’ve taken some time already to begin to plan out your 4th quarter. If you haven’t yet… go do it now! It’s better to start now than never.

Part of that planning is what I’d like to talk to you about today. I want to talk to you about retargeting your audience.

It goes without saying that your sales funnel is one of the most important assets in your marketing. Remember, a sales funnel is simply your customer journey. Your funnel is what brings you leads and helps you convert them. So, if you want to take your marketing conversions to a new and exciting level, your funnels will need to include some form of retargeting.

Hold up, what’s retargeting?

Have you ever visited a website and then later started seeing more and more information from that brand? It might even seem like it’s following you around all over the web… That’s retargeting! (AKA remarketing.)

Chances are, your marketing funnel is built to drive brand awareness and increase conversions. You’ve designed the perfect lead magnet that brings your ideal prospect to the door, but what happens when you don’t convert them the first time through? That’s where remarketing or retargeting comes into play.

Retargeting is one of the best ways to reengage with prospects and get a sale that didn’t happen on a previous occasion. In other words, retargeting gives you a second, third, or fourth chance to get a sale that may have slipped out of your hands before.

Realistically, most first-time visitors won’t convert, especially if you are selling a high-ticket item. You often have to reach out with reminders on why they should purchase from you. Retargeting allows you to add another touch to the process.

How do we retarget?

In practical terms, retargeting your customers involves monitoring their behavior and using that info to push them back to your website or to a sales call. By far, retargeting is a sure way to supercharge your marketing ROI.

Using Facebook to create this retargeting effort allows you the space to create direct, unique, and personalized ads.

Take a look at these retargeting statistics below:

  • 3 out of 4 customers notice retargeted ads
  • Retargeted ads on Facebook are 76% more likely to get clicks than regular display ads
  • If you leverage retargeting along with your other marketing, you can sell 50% more

Retargeting also opens your marketing up to a number of other campaigns.

It works like this…

If a prospect takes your quiz, you then have the opportunity to continue to send them valuable information and content based on the results of that quiz. You’re able to offer more customized marketing based on their pain points, which is exactly how you make remarketing more valuable!

Retargeting can help you to move prospects further down your funnel and even right into a sale.

How-to Better Move Leads Through the Funnel

The idea behind any marketing funnel is to move people down through the various stages. If you already know that leads usually purchase after five touches with your brand, retargeting gives you additional touch options and can speed up the process.

Research has shown that 92% of customers don’t purchase on their first visit to a website. This is exactly why you need to follow them around and make sure they enter back into your funnel at the right stage.

In order to do that, you’ll need to retarget them with fresh content.

Retargeting Is About Developing Relationships

Just like dating, the key to remarketing is building relationships and trust. If someone comes to your website and they don’t buy; you can remarket to them and they will keep seeing your ads everywhere.

Soon, they will begin to feel and think as if they know you! Now, they are more likely to give you that chance they will not give to a total stranger.

The retargeting process allows you to:

  1. Earn your site visitors’ and potential customers’ trust by making them comfortable with you.
  2. Gently push to get them back to your site by educating them further through blog posts, webinars, training materials, and email follow-up sequences.
  3. Ask them to make a purchase. Your audience is much more likely to convert if they’ve already invested in trusting you.

As with all aspects of digital marketing, retargeting requires a consistent application. It may take a few months to see any ROI, and you may even have to test and tweak your messaging.

Remember, the more you know your audience, the better you can retarget them as they work through your marketing funnel.

The next thing you know, you’ll have customers saying, “It’s almost as if they read my mind and know exactly what I want.”
